Affogato Ice Coffee – A delicious dessert made with filter coffee

Do you enjoy an after dinner cup of coffee? Then you will certainly enjoy this dessert with coffee!
In Italian Affogato means ‘soaked’ or ‘drowned’ in coffee, which is quite the fitting name for this tasty coffee dessert. It is easy to make yet so good to serve after dinner!
How to make
In Italy they normally make Affogato with espresso coffee but it will taste just as good with filter coffee. We do advise to use a darker ground coffee. As usual, use 60 grams of coffee per 1 Litre water.
Recipe for Affogato:
Ingredients (per person)
- 4 cl coffee
- 1 scoop of ice cream
- Bar of chocolate or ready grated chocolate
Needed:
- Dessert or martini glass
- Small grater
- Moccamaster filter coffee machine
Instructions:
- Brew your coffee as per usual with your Moccamaster machine. If available, use a darker coffee ground for a stronger flavour.
- Scoop the ice cream into the glass, pour your coffee over the ice cream and use the bar of chocolate to grate some of it on top of the coffee.
- There you go, a dessert that is simple to make but so fun to serve your guests after dinner.

3 Extra tips
- If you would like to make this dessert for a group of people, it’s best to prepare beforehand. Put the scoops of ice cream into the glasses and put those in the freezer; the ice cream will remain firm much longer when you are ready to serve.
- Although Affogato is preferably made with strong coffee, you should keep to the 60 grams of ground coffee per Litre. When you use more than that, the coffee will most likely taste bitter. Rather use a dark ground coffee to get that stronger flavour.
- The original recipe for Affogato uses vanilla ice cream but you can of course use any other kind. Pick your favourite flavour and see what works for you!
