Are our plastics safe?

We are often asked whether the plastics we use are safe, especially since they come into contact with heat. The answer is yes, they are safe. They are free from BPA, BPF and phthalates. Nice terms, but what do they actually mean? We will explain that in this blog. 

What is BPA?

BPA stands for Bisphenol A. Still sounds complicated. Explained simply, it is a chemical that was previously widely used in hard plastics, for example in food packaging, drinking bottles and kitchen appliances. BPA can be released in small quantities when it comes into contact with hot liquids, such as coffee or hot water. That is why the substance has been the subject of much debate in recent years. Scientists have been researching the possible impact of BPA on our health for some time, which is why you want to avoid this substance in the plastic you use every day. 

And what is BPF?

BPF (Bisphenol F) is a substance that is similar in structure to BPA and is sometimes used as a substitute. Although it is less well known, the same concerns apply as with BPA. This is because BPF can also leave traces in food or drink when it comes into contact with heat. That is why we have chosen to be free not only of BPA, but also of BPF.

What are phthalates?

Phthalates are plasticisers that make plastic flexible and pliable. They are widely used in packaging, toys and household products. There are also concerns about phthalates because, in some situations, they can be released and end up in the environment or the body. Our plastics are therefore also free from this substance.
