Which filter paper is best?
An obvious choice when you go to the supermarket for filter paper is to buy a package of brown filter paper. Of course, nothing is wrong with that, but it does not benefit the taste of the coffee. Why? And what is the difference with the white paper that we recommend as Moccamaster? We explain that to you here!
Try it out, a bleached white (filter)paper in your mouth and a brown (filter)paper. You will notice that the white filter paper has no taste. Unlike white paper, the brown paper does give an aftertaste. You can imagine that when the coffee flows through the filter paper for 6 minutes, this taste goes with you in your coffee. A shame! With a Moccamaster, you have everything you need to make the best coffee, so we advise you to also use white paper for an even better taste of the coffee.
Good choice for human and nature
Now we hear you thinking, 'but isn't white paper worse for nature because a tree is brown?'. Fortunately, the answer is 'No!'. White filter paper is bleached with natural oxygen. So, as a result, it is not harmful to people or the environment. Another advantage is that the filter bag can simply be thrown away in the organic waste container after making coffee.
Better for your health
Finally, another beneficial fact: oils from coffee such as Kahweol and Cafestol are filtered out when using filter paper. These substances have a negative effect on your cholesterol levels. So white or brown paper, with filter coffee, you drink your coffee healthier!
Still not convinced? You can also try the Goldfilter. The filter openings allow the aromatic oils and fats to pass through the filter, giving the coffee a full flavour. Fine particles of coffee powder end up in your cup through the holes in the filter. However, the Goldfilter does not filter out the Kahweol and Cafestol. So the choice is yours!
