ECBC & SCA, how about that?

ECBC & SCA, how about that?
September 4, 2023

As you may already know, Moccamaster meets the coffee organizations' ECBC and SCA requirements. But what do these organizations stand for, and why do we receive the certificates? You can read more about that in this blog!

What is the ECBC?

The European Coffee Brewing Center was founded in Norway and has existed since 1971. It is an independent organization that tests coffee equipment for the quality of the machine and coffee quality. Coffee experts and professional coffee tasters have developed the testing method. Brewing time, temperature and flavour extraction are of great importance here. All Moccamaster devices have been certified by the ECBC since 1975. You will also see this quality mark on the brewers, as a sticker under the water reservoir and on the packaging.

And the SCA?

The Specialty Coffee Association is a global organization operating from the United Kingdom and the United States. Their goal is to ensure the quality of worldwide coffee communities. The organization supports all activities that contribute to the development of coffee. Of course, good coffee brewers are part of that, but also everyone who works with coffee up to and including the individual coffee enthusiast. The SCA has specific standards for testing and requirements that, among other things, a coffee brewer must meet. Moccamaster coffee brewers also carry the SCA quality mark for making the perfect cup of coffee. You will not see this quality mark physically on the coffee brewers, but you will see it on our packaging.

Hopefully it is now clear to you what the ECBC and SCA stand for, what they mean within the coffee world and of course why Moccamaster proudly carries these labels.
