How to brew with Moccamaster
Whether you’re making coffee with your KBG Select, KBGT or Cup-One, the principle remains the same. But if you’re completely new to the world of filter coffee, this blog is for you. We’re going to take you through the process of making the perfect cup of filter coffee step by step – using your Moccamaster, of course!

The right ingredients
You can’t brew the perfect cup of coffee with just a filter bag and coffee beans. To ensure that all the aromas and flavours of the coffee come through fully, we recommend using white filter paper. This is flavourless, unlike brown filter paper, which gives your coffee a papery aftertaste. You can read more about this in this blog. Then, of course, there’s the right grind. Whether you opt for the smoothness of the Arabica bean or the strength of the Robusta bean, if you go for a filter grind, you’re on the right track. You can, of course, buy it ready-made, but the perfect coffee is made with freshly ground beans. You can grind them, of course, with our KM5 Coffee Grinder.

Clean tap water or spring water from a clean jug is best. And, of course, the right amount of coffee. For the KBG Select, we generally recommend 4 cups for the best flavour. With the KBGT, we always recommend a full thermos flask of coffee, as it does not have a half-pot or full-pot function. For the Cup-One, always fill to the 1st line of coffee along with one level coffee scoop. For the KBG Select and KBGT, use one level coffee scoop per line of water on the water reservoir. So:
1st line (2 cups); 1 scoop
2nd line (4 cups); 2 scoops, etc.
Start brewing, wait a moment and enjoy
Within 6 minutes you’ll have a full pot of coffee, or a full mug in 4 minutes if you’re using the Cup-One. This is the perfect brewing time to bring out the best in your coffee’s aromas. With a Moccamaster, you always brew a consistent cup of coffee, both in terms of brewing time and temperature. The coffee is brewed at between 92 and 96°C, which is the optimal temperature for coffee. If you brew your coffee too hot, it becomes bitter. If you brew it too cold, you end up with sour coffee. So with your Moccamaster, you always have a balanced cup of coffee to get you through the day.
